Pressed against the Oakville foothills on the western floor of the Napa Valley (part of the historic Napanook Parcel), The Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper Vineyard is that rare find of a vineyard that simultaneously exhibits power, elegance, and grace. The vineyard’s western orientation, deep gravel laden soil and shade from the intense afternoon heat, provides for an ideal growing environment and longer, slightly cooler season.
Mockingbird Red’s deep garnet purple hue gives way to scents of pencil shavings and crème-de-cassis. The iron-rich granite vein that runs through the vineyard finds its way into the glass with a deep and nuanced minerality combining beautifully with the sweet flavors of late summer blueberries and candied plum. The velvety finish showcases clove, saddle leather, and anise.
Mockingbird Red draws us in with its stunning interplay of pure and classic Napa Valley Cabernet. The wine is stunningly delicious now, but is expected to improve in your cellar for the next 25 years.
